This article applies to all YubiKey and Security Key devices.
To ensure you have the latest versions of Yubico software on Ubuntu (or Ubuntu based distributions), you can enable the Yubico PPA. To do so, follow the steps below. If you use a different distribution of Linux, you can check your distribution's package repository for Yubico software or compile the software from the source code.
- Open Terminal.
- Run: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yubico/stable && sudo apt-get update
- When prompted, press Enter to confirm adding the PPA.
Success! Now you can install the latest Yubico software via apt-get install. Some common applications and their installation commands are listed below.
If the command: "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yubico/stable" fails to fetch the signing key you can perform the following.
"sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 32CBA1A9"
|*YubiKey Manager (GUI)||sudo apt-get install yubikey-manager-qt|
|Yubico Authenticator||sudo apt-get install yubioath-desktop|
|YubiKey Personalization Tool||sudo apt-get install yubikey-personalization-gui|
*Note that yubikey-manager-qt is unavailable for Ubuntu 16.04 in our PPA, due to that version of Ubuntu lacking an up-to-date Qt library. If you are running 16.04, you will need to use the AppImage of YubiKey Manager available here instead. The command-line yubikey-manager is available for 16.04 in our PPA, however.
