This document walks through the steps for setting up two-factor authentication on 1Password using the YubiKey and Yubico Authenticator.
Tip: Two-factor authentication requires 1Password 7 or later.
- 1Password version 7 or later
- 1Password Account
- Yubico Authenticator
- YubiKey with the OATH application. See the Applicable Products section above.
1Password has recently enabled two-factor authentication for users via tools like Google Authenticator and DUO Push Application. Yubico makes a similar software solution called the Yubico Authenticator. YubiKey users can use the Yubico Authenticator for Desktop and on Android Devices to generate the codes.
On the upper right corner, click the username dropdown and select My Profile
Under More Actions, select Turn On Two-Factor Authentication
Enter your Master Password and click Next.
After you enter your Master Password, a dialog containing the QR Code will be displayed with the on-boarding instructions.
Open Yubico Authenticator on your current desktop.
Insert your YubiKey to an available USB port on your computer.
In Yubico Authenticator, open File > New Credential and enter the details below.
Account name: your account email.
Secret Key: copy and paste the secret from your 1Password 2FA Screen
Optional: Require touch
Click Save credential.
To verify the success of 2FA, use the newly generated TOTP from Yubico Authenticator on your 1Password Account.
Success! Your 1Password account is now secured with two-factor authentication using the YubiKey.
