When using a YubiKey with a mobile device over NFC (tapping the key to the device), you may encounter a website NFC tag pop-up. This behavior is expected and referred to as the NDEF / OTP pop-up.
If Yubico Authenticator is installed on the iPhone, you may receive the following pop-up:
If Yubico Authenticator is not installed on the iPhone, you may receive the following pop-up:
If you'd like to disable this functionality, you can do so by turning off the OTP over NFC functionality using Yubico Authenticator for iOS or Yubico Authenticator for Desktop.
Note: This disables the OTP over NFC functionality, but will still work via direct plugin. You can re-enable this functionality at any time.
To disable the NFC tag pop-up using Yubico Authenticator for iOS
- Open Yubico Authenticator.
- In the top right corner, click on the three horizontal dots to open the menu.
- Select Configuration.
- On the Configuration page, select Toggle One-Time Password.
- Scan the YubiKey.
- Disable the One-Time Password option.
To disable the NFC tag pop-up using Yubico Authenticator for Desktop
- Open Yubico Authenticator.
- Plug in the YubiKey.
- From the Home page, select Toggle applications on the right hand side.
- Under NFC, de-select Yubico OTP.
- Click Save.
